Sigrid Kaag ontvangt boek Rob de Wijk: “De Slag om Europa”

“Het is nu of nooit voor Europa”, zei Sigrid Kaag bij de overhandiging van het nieuwe boek van Rob de Wijk, “om te tonen hoe belangrijk Europa is en wat we er echt mee kunnen, niet alleen voor onszelf maar ook op het wereldtoneel”.

In het boek komt één ding naar voren: Europa wordt van alle kanten belaagd. Dit gebeurt van buiten uit door Xi Jinping die al jaren bezig is om via de Nieuwe Zijderoute invloed te kopen en door Poetin die via geheime operaties de NAVO probeert te ontwrichten. Laatst kregen deze leiders ook hulp vanuit het Witte Huis. Maar ook van binnenuit zijn er bedreigingen zoals de Brexit en de ondermijning van de rechtstaat in Polen en Hongarije. Toch trekt Rob de Wijk een positieve conclusie en voorspeld hij dat dit wel eens de eeuw van Europa zou kunnen worden.
