Marjolein de Ridder speaks about minerals and renewable energy at the Hanse-Wissenschaftkolleg

December 8, 2011

Which minerals are critical for the transition to renewable energy? How will future energy and mineral demand develop? And what will be the implications for international relations?

Marjolein de Ridder answers these question in her paper “The Geopolitics of Mineral Resources for Renewable Energy Technologies”.

Marjolein de Ridder presented her paper in a workshop on the geopolitics of renewable energy at the Hanse-Wissenschaftkolleg (HWK) / Institute for Advanced Studies. The workshop was organized by HWK and Jacob’s University in Bremen and took place in Delmenhorst, Germany, from November 30 – December 2, 2011.

The goal of the workshop was two-folded:

1) providing a forum for expert discussion of cutting-edge issues related to the transition to renewable energy;

2) producing an edited volume on the Geopolitics of Renewable Energy, which would fill a gap in the literature.

The workshop served as a mini-peer review session for the papers that were presented by the participants in the workshop.

Marjolein de Ridder’s paper will be published as a book chapter in the workshop’s volume in 2012.
