Jack Thompson worked as Senior Strategic Analyst at HCSS from 2020-2022.

He was lead author for the Strategic Monitor project and co-chair of the HCSS Initiative on the Future of Transatlantic Relations. His research focussed on Europe’s global role, European strategic autonomy, transatlantic relations, and US politics and foreign policy. Before joining the HCSS, he was Head of the Global Security Team at the Center for Security Studies, ETH Zurich and Lecturer at the Clinton Institute, University College Dublin. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, an MA from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a BA from the University of St. Thomas.

Jack Thompson is author of Great Power Rising: Theodore Roosevelt and the Politics of US Foreign Policy (Oxford University Press, 2019) and was a recipient of the 2020 Theodore Roosevelt Association Book Prize.

He currently teaches at the University of Amsterdam.
