China hosts world leaders for Silk Road Summit

Starting on Sunday 14 May 2017 China hosts leaders from around the world for a 2-day Summit to discuss the "One Belt, One Road" project (OBOR). OBOR, or 'the New Silk Road' as it is sometimes called, is a multi-billion dollar initiative to link China with Europe and beyond.

Despite all the fanfare, rolling out OBOR is not always a smooth ride. Al Jazeera News Grid spoke about the matter with Sijbren de Jong. The full item can be accessed here.

Sijbren de Jong is a Strategic Analyst at HCSS and lecturer in Geo-Economics at Leiden University, The Hague. He has a PhD in EU external energy security relations from the University of Leuven and holds degrees in Economic Geography (MSc) from the University of Groningen and Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding (MA) from the University of Leuven.
